Posted by Tom Lawrence on Jan 9, 09 03:18 PM in Schools/colleges

A top business expert is visiting secondary school pupils to explain the credit crunch and its effect on the global economy.

Hector Sants, Chief Executive of the Financial Services Authority, is taking a break from the City to visit sixth form students from Queen's Park Community School and give a lecture outlining the causes of the economic downturn.

After the talk, students will have a chance to quiz Mr Sants before he heads back to The Square Mile.

Jayne Llewelyn, the school's business and community liaison co-ordinator, said: "We are really thrilled and honoured that someone as influential and well-respected as Hector Sants is coming to our school.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for the students to find out about the current business climate from someone who really is an expert."

Queens Park is one of 72 schools taking part in the Careers Academies Programme, which offers support to talented students through a combination of internships and mentoring opportunities.

Councillor Bob Wharton, responsible for children and families, said: "Everyone is obviously interested in the economic downturn at the moment so this session promises to be a fascinating insight into what is really going on and one which I'm sure the students will benefit from immensely."

The visit will take place on Thursday next week (15)..
