Water company slammed after flood causes chaos
THAMES Water is facing growing criticism after another flooding incident caused traffic chaos in Brent.
There have been an increasing spate of burst mains and floods in the past year and the water company has been blamed for failing to replace dilapidated pipes and improve old sewer networks.
Longstone Avenue, in Harlesden, was closed on Tuesday when an undergroundmain burst and spilled on to the street.
Hundreds of residents in the surrounding area lost their water supply andthousands of others experiences a loss of pressure in their taps.
Councillor Daniel Brown, responsible for Brent's highways andtransportation, has called for Thames Water to explain the incident and hasrepeated demands for the company to tackle the problem of flooding."
Brent residents and those visiting our borough do not deserve to face regular disruption as a result of water companies failing to maintain orpreserve a drainage system that is fit for purpose," he said.
"Having been in contact with the company quite a bit in recent months, I have repeated my demand for a full explanation of exactly what they intendto do to prevent these ongoing problems.
"As a Council we remain determined to ensure that Brent becomes cleaner,greener and safer for our residents.
"Burst water mains on a repeated basishamper all of these aims. Thames Water must play their part and properlyserve their customers, and our local residents."
