Presidential hopeful meets Brent MP
By Tom Lawrence
Dawn Butler, Labour MP for Brent South, met US Presidential Candidate Barack Obama during his whistle-stop tour to the UK, last week.
She told him he inspired her to continue her work in Brent.
Ms Butler said: "Obama and I spoke about many issues, we engaged on the issue of how Americans felt about being seen to be isolated from the rest of the world and how as President, he would rectify this perception to unite the world to combat the global problems of food, fuel, climate change and the credit crunch. "
The pair spoke at the Houses of Parlaiment after Mr Obama, who is trying to make history by becoming the first black US leader, met with Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Ms Butler added: "Having personally spoken to Obama, I felt that on all levels he was fighting for a better world.
"He was truly inspirational as he encouraged me to continue my work in Brent and to be the best MP that I can.
"I hope that America takes this opportunity to elect a great man like Barack Obama as President, not just for America but for us all."
