Hundreds of cannabis plants found in former club

And said the plants were being harvested so they could be sold to revelers at the annual August bank holiday street party.

At 8am this morning, officers from the Kensal Green Safer Neigbourhood team broke down three heavily-locked doors at the former club - called What's Your Flava - to reveal a labyrinth of plant cultivating chambers.

The dance floor and bar had been transformed into a state-of -the-art cannabis nursery, with banks of plugs and timers powering heat lamps positioned carefully over the 1,000 fully-grown plants.

A further 1,000 plants, at various stages of maturity, were also found packed in three cramped rooms in the club's basement

"I could smell the cannabis after breaking down the first door, it was that strong," said Sergeant Greg Wakefield, from Kensal Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team."

Fights of stairs and corridors linking each room were strewn with bottles of used fertiliser and compost and a series of air ducts had been fitted to filter the pungent smell of cannabis out of each room.

Sergeant Wakefield hailed the operation as a great success, saying he did not expect to uncover so many plants.
He said: "We have hit the jackpot.

"I have been a police officer for 18 years and this is the biggest find I have ever had.

"This has been very professionally done and I am certain it was destined for the Notting Hill Carnival."

Two suspects were seen jumping over a hedge at the back of the property shorty after police entered the property, but managed to escape.

Neighbours said they were shocked that such a large-scale operation was being carried out right under their noses.

A police probe has now been launched to find the people responsible for the factory.
